Happy Handy Man - November 11, 2009

Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away and with all the cooking that going on for the family it’s time I helped out as little bit. Every mom wants her home looking great. So to make that dining room table look good, of course we want to use the Feed and Wax (www.howardproducts.com) it only takes minutes to make the table shine and make the leaf in the table that’s been in the closet look good too. Does everyone congregate in the kitchen, use the Feed and Wax on the cabinets too. Doing both of these jobs will just take a few minutes. If you have hardwood floors, or that no wax floor that doesn’t shine anymore, use an easy product called Quick Shine, (www.quickshine.com) to bring back that shine. Use a dry Swiffer to apply the Quick Shine, and I promise you do not have to be a pro to do this job right. Put on 2 coats, however you get a shine after just one coat. And the nice part about Quick Shine, it’s not a wax, so you never have to take it off, it just wears off in about 6 months and then you apply a couple of coats again. (the next holiday) Now how about making sure that the house smells fresh? Put an Air Sponge behind the return air for your heating and cooling system. It starts working as soon as you turn on the blower of your unit. If you have a natural stone, formica, or man made stone counter tops use a product called Stonetech Stone Polish to clean and protect the surfaces. Getting out the silver? Probably will need polishing and the easiest polish is call All Gleam, and then you can preserve the shine by using Superior Shield also made by All Gleam. I used it on a piece my grandmother owned 7 years ago, and it still is polished. Now before I forget, lets talk about the toilet. Clean it with Delete Germ. Now if you have a glass shower door, and it’s all cloudy from lime buildup – clean it also with the Delete Germ. Just remember to wear gloves, and work in a small area at a time, rinsing completely. The shower will look brand new. All of the products that we are writing about should be found at most hardware stores, but if you can’t you can find them as our website, www.acmelumber.com . The table and counter tops will shine, the floors will too. The house will smell fresh and your bathrooms will make you proud. Now just don’t forget to thaw the turkey in time.

Now to the e mail….

Question: I have some rusty stains on my driveway and also lime stains on my brick because of a sprinkler. Is there a safe product to use to clean both?
Answer: Yes and the product name is Safe Solutions. It’s made by Super Deck. Put the Safe Solutions in a plastic watering can, and then sprinkle over the stain, scrub with an old broom and then rinse off.

Question: We have an old stump in our back yard. I know some people like having them in their yard, but we want it gone. Can you help?
Answer: Yes, use a product called Green Light Stump Remover. Most any nursery or hardware store with a Lawn & Garden area will carry it.

Question: I have a mobile home that has vinyl siding. I want to hang up some containers that hold flowers. But what can I screw into the siding? Should I nail? Help.
Answer: Vinyl siding is very thin and I wouldn’t recommend nailing or screwing into it. It might crack and then you would have to re-place a piece. It might be hard to match.

Question: I rent right now, and I want to hang up all my pictures so that the apartment feels like home until I get my home. So what can I use that won’t leave tell tale holes?
Answer: The picture hook takes no tools and you don’t have to find a stud in the wall. It installs in a second and when you leave just pull it out and stick a little toothpaste in the tiny hole. The hook holds up to 50 lbs.
